The Procyon Post: What's New! Volume 8, Issue 9, September 2026

Dear reader,

We have had many exciting changes and improvements happening around Procyon Wildlife in the last month. One of them came very unexpectedly when we were approached by a company that wanted to give back to a community charity through an employee volunteer day. At their request, they have chosen to remain anonymous, but we could not let their generosity go unrecognized.

Approximately 20 to 25 employees donated their entire afternoon to helping Procyon Wildlife, and the amount they accomplished in just a few short hours was truly amazing. They arrived ready to work, divided and conquered, and tackled a long list of projects that will have a lasting impact on our centre. To this amazing group of employees, thank you from all of us at Procyon Wildlife.

Also beautifying the area at Procyon is volunteer, Doran, who aside from caring for the animals, painted a lovely mural on Rusty's flight cage. See pictures below. Thank you Doran!

The new pathway to view our ambassador animals is also complete! It's beautiful, and provides our visitors with a safer, improved, more welcoming area to see some of the incredible animals who call Procyon home. Our educational programs are available to elementary grade schools, colleges, universities, veterinary technician programs, and interns, as well as community groups of all ages, from young children to adults.

We truly couldn’t accomplish projects like these without the amazing volunteers and supporters who generously donate their time, skills, and hard work. Every improvement helps us provide better care for the thousands of wild animals that come through our doors each year. You can see pictures and details of these and other renovation and beautification projects here on our FaceBook page.

A huge thank you also goes out to John, who dropped off nine beautifully handcrafted nest boxes for our Eastern Gray Squirrels, Red Squirrels, and Chipmunks. If you’ve ever wanted to learn a new skill while helping Procyon Wildlife, we’d love to hear from you! John has offered to teach anyone interested in building these life-saving nest boxes.

Our articles this month include the August Animal Updates and A World of Hurt - How We Can Help, by volunteer Jen Howard, and a short story by Custodian Debra Spilar about a pair of chipmunks saved from certain death on a glue trap. Enjoy those reads below.

We have a new Volunteer Coordinator. After many years of service, Linda has taken on some lighter duties, and Nicole will be taking over. So, if you'd like to be part of our amazing team, please reach out to Nicole at nicolea@procyonwildlife.com or go to our website here to learn more about volunteering with us, and fill out an application! — we’d love to have you as part of our team! https://www.procyonwildlife.com/volunteering-at-procyon/

Take care,
