Uninvited Guests
You are enjoying a quiet, relaxing evening, cuddled up on your favourite chair in the living room. Just as you get to the really interesting part of your novel, you hear a funny noise. What is that? Where is it coming from? You put your glass of Chianti down, and get up to investigate. Holy catfish! That weird sound is coming from INSIDE your house, in the wall, up near the ceiling! Is it scratching? Maybe the scurrying of tiny feet? And ever so faintly, a sweet little mewing? Is that a cat?
Well, I doubt it. How about a litter of 5 baby raccoons waiting for a feeding? Right there…. in your attic…. and not even paying rent! What should you do? So many options, so little time….

Wildlife Rescuing
As our wildlife has been forced through habitat loss to coexist with people. We also need to accept that we need to do the same with them.
Every day more development takes over, trees come down, wetlands are filled in along with every living being who calls them home. Although development must go on, we do need to understand that wetlands and trees and all the lives they hold are so very important to our well being, to our environment and ecosystem.
We need to fight for more green space. We need to fight for our wildlife. And this is where wildlife rescue comes in.
There are not nearly enough of us, and we are not funded by our government. We run on donations from you, the public and dedicated volunteers.
Procyon is not fitted with a rescue team. We depend on you to bring us those animals. However, our phone volunteers will assist you in how you go about getting a sick or injured animal etc. There are occasions where you can’t do it and we try to get a volunteer to assist. So it’s a good idea to mention that. Being mindful they are volunteers and some work or go to school as well. But we do our best to try to get you help.

Animal Updates - April 2022
by Jennifer Howard
Every day is a new day at Procyon. Here are a few updates of animals who are or were in our care.
First fox of the year Geetika, (meaning beauty). Came in on January 6th with mange. He looked rough mange wise but was in good body condition. The beautiful handsome fox healed nicely and was able to be released in excellent condition on March 8th. He sniffed around and chose his direction. So wonderful to see him go free again.

It's a Myth that Live Trapping and Relocating is Humane
It is a myth that live trapping and relocating a wild animal is a humane solution to dealing with a wild animal. The truth is that live trapping and relocating a wild animal can often be a death sentence.
Most wild animals defend a territory, that territory is theirs. This means they fight off competition, have food stores and know where to find resources and shelter.

This means we need help from people to operate our phone lines from the comfort of their homes. You will need to have access to the internet and a computer or tablet to assist our animal care workers with online admissions.
If you or someone you know might have a few extra hours per day to answer our hotline phones, please contact us at info@procyonwildlife.com We will provide remote telephone training.

Handyperson
We need help with many odd jobs around the Centre, including grounds keeping, building nest boxes, renovations inside the building and repairs to our outside enclosures.

Website Assistant
We are looking for someone to assist our web coordinator, with online work for our website, newsletter and data entry. Some experience with WordPress would be an asset, but not essential. Training will be provided. To learn more contact admin@procyonwildlife.com
