To start with this month, I would like to send out some more gratitude! First, our thanks go out to It Takes a Village, organizers of the June 14 Trivia Night, for choosing Procyon Wildlife Rehabilitation & Education Centre as this year's charity partner! They raised $2400 on our behalf! Thank you so much!
|
I would also like to thank a young man named Isaiah McCloud, a talented birdwatcher, photographer, and artist. Isaiah combines his love of birds with his artistic abilities by creating beautiful paintings from the birds he photographs. He then turns his artwork into greeting cards, selling them at local markets and generously donating 50% of the proceeds to Procyon Wildlife. We are incredibly grateful for his support and inspired by his dedication to wildlife conservation at such a young age.

Read in our Animal Updates this month about all the animals we have in our care, how they are doing, and the moves some are making to outdoor enclosures. Apple the porcupine has moved into her new domain, and two of our fox kits have moved outside as well. You can see the excitement this move can provide in Custodian Debra Spilar's article Big Day for Fox Kits! These adorable animals just radiate excitement. It's so good to see!

Also below, you can read a short story with a happy ending and a reminder of how dangerous swimming pools can be for wildlife.

Our wildlife babies are growing quickly and many are now transitioning from formula to solid foods. As a result, we’re running low on some important supplies and would greatly appreciate your help. Our current needs include baby food purée (fruits and vegetables), canned sardines in water, eggs, and Strawberry Ensure. Every donation, no matter the size, helps us provide the nutrition these young animals need to grow strong and healthy. Even donating just one item can make a real difference. If needed to ship items using Amazon, our address is 6441 7th Line, Beeton, Ontario L0G 1A0. Thank you for supporting the wildlife in our care and helping us give them the best chance at a successful return to the wild.

It’s been a very busy season for us, and we are only midway through the year. Currently, we have 252 animals in care, and we have admitted 713 animals so far this year, comprising 51 different species. Typically, during the month of June, …

Today marked an exciting milestone in their journey. Our growing fox kits have officially graduated to one of the six large enclosures we’ve built specifically for foxes and coyotes. To say they were excited would be an understatement! They spent the day hopping around like little bunnies, exploring …

What some TLC can do
This young rabbit was found floating in a finders pool. He was barely breathing when found and was lying on his side open mouth breathing for hours catching his breath. It became clear to them that he needed more care than just drying off as he was unable to run away. Thankfully he was brought to Procyon. He had nearly drowned and needed oxygen treatment and monitoring of his lungs. He did make a full recovery and was released less than a week later!

If you have a pool in your yard, please consider adding a wildlife ramp to save any critters that happen to fall in!

We currently do not have a rescue team to pick up animals that are injured or in distress. Unfortunately, we do not have the people and money needed to provide this service. Please contact your local animal control. The animal must already have been contained and arrangements made with us to receive the animal.
