The Procyon Post: What's New! Volume 8, Issue 4, April 2026

Dear reader,

In this month's newsletter you won't want to miss Procyon foster carer Pam Boisvert's sweet story of Procyon's newest Wildlife Ambassador, Miss Scully, in the article of the same name.
We also get an update from Jen Howard, Procyon volunteer and photographer, on just a few of the many animals in our care at the moment, and she also gives some tips on how to keep the animals on their way, safe, in her article "Migration and Safety".

Our 50/50 raffle at the Furnal Equinox Event last weekend has officially concluded, raising an incredible total of over $28,000. The lucky winner of half the raffle prize money was announced live at the convention, and has been successfully claimed. Thank you to everyone who participated—your support truly makes a difference for the animals in our care. And thanks again to all our friends at Furnal Equinox who continue to support our work.

Many thanks also go out to Diane from Bee Sew Busy in Jackson Plaza, Beeton, where they sell gorgeous handmade infant, toddler and young child clothing and matching knitwear sets along with quality toys. For a second year, Diane has been saving us her remnants for cutting up to make stimulation cloths. You see, many infant mammals are unable to relieve themselves without mother stimulating their bodies, so, caregivers use a wet cotton swab or cloth to rub their bellies in the genital region to stimulate them to void their bladders. Not glamorous, but an extremely important part of caring for orphaned wildlife. Thanks again Diane!

As mentioned last month, baby season is just around the corner at Procyon Wildlife, and as wildlife begins to arrive in greater numbers we’re looking for more dedicated volunteers to help us prepare for the busy months ahead!

No experience? No problem! We provide full training, PPE, and a Procyon Wildlife t-shirt. All you need is a willingness to learn, a strong work ethic, and a passion for helping wildlife.
Not sure if hands-on animal care is for you? There are many other meaningful ways to help! You can volunteer as a phone support volunteer, grant writer, driver, help build nest boxes, assist with maintenance projects, and so much more. Volunteering with Ontario’s native wildlife is an incredibly rewarding experience. You’ll be part of a compassionate team making a real difference in the lives of injured and orphaned animals.

If you’re interested in joining us this baby season, please reach out to Linda info@procyonwildlife.com or go to the website here to learn more about volunteering with us, and fill out an application! — we’d love to welcome you to the team!

Take care,
Annette (annetteb@procyonwildlife.com)

We currently do not have a rescue team to pick up animals that are injured or in distress. Unfortunately, we do not have the people and money needed to provide this service. Please contact your local animal control. The animal must already have been contained and arrangements made with us to receive the animal.

Also, please check our map to see if Procyon Wildlife falls within your geographical area. Check the map here. If you are outside of the area, please check this list of Ontario wildlife rehabbers for the one closest to you.
Our telephone operators return calls from 10 am to 5 pm daily. If you are calling outside of business hours, please do not leave multiple messages. You will be called back the following morning. You will be given a phone number to call upon your arrival with strict instructions to be followed.
Thank you for your understanding.
