The Procyon Post: What's New! Volume 8, Issue 1, January 2025
Such a short time since our holiday celebrations ended, and yet you are all probably already getting back to your regular routines, as we are here at Procyon. The first day of the new year brought four admissions, the very first being an adult dark-eyed Junco found caught dangling in a fence. Jen Howard's final monthly Animal Update for 2025 talks about the last intake, among other things.
This month we also have a very short, but sweet article about one of Procyon's recent success stories. Pam Boisvert (Website Administrator and Foster Carer) introduces us to a rabbit with a head tilt in Rabbit Success Story
Last but not least, we have an amusing release story told from the perspective of our very own Applesauce, the Porcupine born at Procyon after her mother (Apple) was brought to us for care. Complete with a short video of Applesauce and the visitors who came by for a snack at her Igloo in the weeks after her release, please read The Release of Applesauce - a Message to Mom by Procyon volunteer Michelle Meandro.

Proving it can be fun to help wildlife, starting this month, Procyon is proud to be part of the Charitable Gaming Community at Bingo World Newmarket. This will help us raise essential funds to support the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of injured, displaced, and orphaned wildlife.
Whenever you play bingo, you will support nearly 100 charities, non-profits, and service clubs across the region, including Procyon Wildlife. No matter what day of the week you visit, a portion of the proceeds will go toward Procyon.
Bingo World is located at: 1230 Kerrisdale Blvd., Newmarket, ON L3Y 8Z9. If you are new to bingo and would like to learn more, visit:https://www.bingoworld.ca/newmarket/new-to-bingo Come out and come often for exciting evenings at Bingo World Newmarket and support wildlife in need while enjoying a great night out.

This is our last animal update for 2025. Last year we admitted a grand total of 1263 animals into care. At the moment we have 82 - fewer than usual. The last admission of the year was an adult little brown bat, a species on the endangered list. According to Crystal, …

E. cuniculi (Encephalitozoon cuniculi) is a common fungal parasite found in mammals worldwide. During baby season wildlife babies need to be fed frequently during the day which is why our first shift goes from 6 am in the morning and our last shift ends at 11 pm at night).
